Consumer Protection Act (CPA) 2019

The CPA 2019 is the backbone of consumer defense in India. It replaced the older 1986 Act to address modern challenges like e-commerce, direct selling, and digital fraud.

The 3-Tier Redressal System

Based on the value of your claim, you approach different levels of the Consumer Commission. This hierarchy ensures that cases are handled efficiently.

03. National Commission (NCDRC)

Claims above ₹2 Crores

The highest level, located in New Delhi. Handles high-value corporate cases and national-level appeals.

02. State Commission

Claims ₹50 Lakhs to ₹2 Crores

Handles larger claims and works as an appellate body against District Commission orders.

01. District Commission

Claims up to ₹50 Lakhs

Located in almost every district. This is the first level of legal recourse for most everyday consumers.
